Beaver Springs Dragway – Wow. Just wow! After so many weeks of rainouts and poor weather, everything aligned and weather was picture perfect at Beaver Springs Dragway for this part of their Labor Day Spectacular! And you could literally feel the excitement in the air, just as much as you could smell the intoxicating perfume of racing fuel hanging in the air. It was so good to see the pits packed full of some very impressive cars along with the drivers and their friends and families. A really a good example of what the sport is about.

The lanes were packed all day with cars from MANDRA and the Pro Stick gang along with a pile of motorcycles, youngsters just starting out, and people there to test and tune their hot rods. As always, wheelstands were the order of the day with the Pro Stick gang, with lots of vehicles lifting the wheels towards the sky as they headed towards the famous Beaver Springs arch and an incredible sky. A sky that was picture perfect. The staff kept things flowing smoothly all day long. On days like this, these folks more than earn their keep, out there on the hot asphalt doing what it takes for the racers to have the best experience possible. Special thanks to each and every one of them!

It’s always good to see old friends, and seeing old drag racing friends is another step up above that. Lots of folks look forward to the Labor Day weekend as part of a racing vacation and hanging out with their racing friends often is more important to them than the results on the track. One charming, young lady told me this event was the one where the wives got together at. That’s one thing a lot of people agree on, this track just has a feel like home whenever you pull through the gates. And it all starts with the smiling face as soon as you pull up to the gate that lets you know down deep inside that you’ve definitely come to the right place.

One of the things I enjoy is just talking to all the racers. Hearing what’s going on with their cars, the changes they’ve made, the plans they have for next year. They range from the serious racer to folks just out doing what the heroes they followed as youngsters were doing when they were growing up. Seizing that chance to experience ground-pounding racing while they still can. For these folks, getting the most out of what life has to offer includes the sights and smells of the drag strip. That adrenaline rush of freedom when the light goes green. Not to mention all the people they get to share it with. Nothing is as family friendly as drag racing, and this event, at this track, is a perfect example. The season’s not over, so get out to Beaver Springs Dragway as soon as you can to become a part of what these people feel each time down the track. Mike and Mikey McCracken both work hard to see the racers and fans get the best experience possible. Come check out what they’ve done and watch some great racing. You’ll be glad you did.
