South Mountain Raceway – This has been a trying year for track owners having to deal with the weather along with all their other operating challenges. This day, however, brought a spectacular day to Mike Natoli’s “Little Slice of Heaven” at South Mountain Raceway. Double points was the theme of the day, trying to make up for some of those pesky rain-outs. The MANDRA gang was out in force with a good showing, not to mention the ever-present Ralph Ferraro showing everyone what it’s like to be “old and cool.” There were more than a couple amazing cars to gaze upon. Add to that youngsters in Junior Dragsters and on ATVs, a few snowmobiles thrown in for good measure, and you had a formula for a great show. And that’s not even mentioning the spectacle of Jeff Bressler’s creation taking to the track. It’s really hard to take your eyes off of that one.

The day wasn’t totally perfect, though. There was some breakage, and a couple delays due to rain, but the track crew took it all in stride and worked hard to keep the day going. I heard several racers along the way saying how well the starting line was maintained, so the crew’s hard work is being noticed!

This one’s a bit short on details, because I must confess my weekend was full and the rain delays added a few more miles to my walking and, quite frankly, I became worn out before real eliminations started. Even though my day was shortened, it was a great day to be at the track with a lot of great people! Take a trip to South Mountain and be a part of it all!
