Mason Dixon Dragway, Boonsboro, MD. – The Vintage Eliminator gang invaded Mason Dixon Dragway for the third race of their season series. The weather forecast predicted Mother Nature would be the winner, but that was not the case. The wisdom of the track owner overrode the prediction and the race was not cancelled and the show went on! Car counts were low, due to the weather (understandable considering the monsoon I had to travel through to get there), but enough racers showed up to make it a great race! In what would end up being perfect weather for racing, the day produced the third different winner in the Vintage Eliminator series in as many races this season. Defending champion, Danielle Stewart, piloted her Studebaker-powered roadster to the win over Brian Burns in his Model A coupe in this one.

The Rocking Chair Nationals always brings in a diverse mixture of older hot rods. It’s also the perfect setting to really show how these Vintage Eliminator hot rods are so different from everything else you usually see at a drag strip when you see them side by side. Seeing these cars that resemble those that laid the very foundation of the sport is an eye-opener for all but the most hardcore fans.

With different winners at every race, the points standings are tight, and the season championship is still up for grabs! First race winner, Brian Ketterer is still at #1, but this win moved defending champ Danielle Stewart up to #2, with Davey Jacobs and race two winner Austin Heister together in the #3 spot, with today’s runner-up Brian Burns moving up to #5. Nipping on the heels of those guys is Liz Leggett, so the folks at the top can’t afford to slack off any. The best thing about hanging around this group is the point standings are secondary to the fun, camaraderie, and sense of family this bunch has. Even if they lose, they still feel like a winner, because they’re behind whoever did win. No other class like this!!

There’s no arguing this group gets more smiles per miles while accomplishing more bang for the buck at the same time than any other class. An added surprise to this race was an entry recently completed by the insanely-talented E.J. Kowalski that was offered for sale. Do you know what this means? You still have a chance to buy a ready-to-race Vintage Eliminator car and have a legitimate chance at the championship! The competition is pretty tight, so that part’s unlikely, but you won’t know until you try! If nothing else, you could own the only 1920 Oakland roadster in your neighborhood. And if it’s not the only one…you live in a pretty cool neighborhood! Even if this car is sold by the time you ask about it, I’m sure E.J. could work his magic and build something for you.
