South Mountain Raceway – Racers always tend to make the most of their resources. Some hand build something from scratch, some use off-the-shelf components and fix up a car, some will do a mixture of the two, and then there are some that will “adopt” an existing car and make it their own. Don Garloff of Lititz, PA is one who adopted his beautiful Chevy Vega and has given it a good home. According to Garloff, “ I bought this car in Chicago, that’s where it originated from, and I went and picked it up out there.” Garloff, a long-time racer, knew what kind of car he was looking for. While this car is a real eye-catcher, the looks weren’t what he was after, it was just a bonus the car he wanted looked good. “I’ve owned it 7 years, it’s been a really good car. Out of all the cars I looked at this was the only one that looked really nice. I wanted to buy a really good car.”

Of course, you might wonder if this car runs as good as it looks. According to Garloff, “It has about 900 hp.” That kind of horsepower propels the car to elapsed times of 5.40s in the eighth and 8.50s in the quarter. With those kind of times coupled with the custom paint and old-school Jungle Jim style flames, I don’t think anyone can argue Don Garloff made a good choice when buying this car.
