Beaver Springs Dragway – With all the bad weather the racing community endured early in the year, it’s always a pleasure when you pull up to the ticket window and the sky is full of crystal blue with only a few small clouds for decoration. It’s also a pleasure to be greeted by a hearty smile in the ticket booth, letting you know you’re in the right place. As the air fills with the sounds of high-revving engines and the fumes of racing fuel and tire smoke, you know it has to be Pack the Track Saturday at Beaver Springs Dragway. An annual favorite of racers and spectators alike, the Pack the Track day, in conjunction with the Wayne Badman Memorial Race, always brings in a lot of high-quality racers and cars. My meandering trips around the track also revealed there were a lot of high-quality people there as well.

On this day, the crowd was not only treated to great racing, but Dawn Perdue and the Wicked Sinsation jet dragster were also in the house. This charming young lady was amazing in her interactions with the fans, young and old alike, but was even more amazing in driving the dragster to a speed just shy of 300 mph!! I can’t downplay the sounds and fury of a nitro-fueled dragster, but a jet dragster is a whole different kind of wild spectacle you have to witness in person to appreciate! (Another post on this to follow at a later date.) Anyone who skipped this really missed out on sights and sounds to behold!

Behind all this action, was a staff dedicated to keeping the track fast and safe for the racers. Can’t leave out those smiling faces in the concession stand, either. They worked hard keeping everyone well taken care of. All track food is good food, but I’d have to say Beaver Springs Dragway is at the top of my list for providing a comfortable area to eat that food. Only a few people can leave the track a winner, but the ones who sat at home and missed all this good racing, good food, and good people, are the ones who really missed out.
