Cumberland, MD – Rain showers showed up in the early hours of the morning making for some wet grass, and a little mud. Even though the forecast called for no more rain, the sky showed it knew more than the weather man and it made conditions less than favorable to have a car show. But that didn’t stop Frosty’s 8th Annual Hot Rod Show. Nor did it stop a whopping 257 cars that were entered, despite the weather. The brainchild of Jim Frost, this event is held to benefit The Holding Hands for Haley Foundation and Averey’s Change Up Foundation. Despite the weather, there was a large number of very impressive vehicles of all kinds. Some of the guys who regularly race the cars they brought to display even smiled about the rain falling, because at the track rain means you go home, while at a show like this, they had the opportunity to continue bench racing and talk about all things car-related. Say what you want about hot rodders and the car culture, but this is a group of guys and gals who always look out for each other and will pull out all the stops when it comes to supporting kids in need, which is what this event is all about.

According to Frost, “The spectators (the amount of them) were just crazy, we had a lot of spectators.” A lot of good guys. It’s all about the kids, we do it for kids with cancer. It’s not going to some big hospital to buy somebody’s desk, it’s going for the kids, that’s who we make sure it goes to.”

While it wasn’t looking good for a car show early in the morning, a grand total of 257 cars and trucks entered to support the kids and show the rain clouds they couldn’t be stopped! All told, the entrants and spectators donated a total of $30,000 to support the kids in need. There are two factors that figure into the success of this event. The big hearts and genuine caring of the car guys and gals, and the fact that Jim Frost knows a lot of these folks and knows how to get them to come together for this event.

Frost, himself, had one of his own cars on display. His old Chevy is still wearing the paint it was given in 1966. Some of it is faded out, but the fame of this particular car doesn’t come from its’ looks. This one is locally famous because there’s a high-revving engine under the hood that Frost uses to propel this car into high-rpm burnouts at the local car show held over Labor Day weekend every year. So if you see Jim Frost, or this car, you know there will be a lot of sweet hot rods and great hot rodders nearby! Keep an eye out for the 9th annual show next year and join in the action!
