Beaver Springs Dragway – Too many times this year, Mother Nature turned on the sprinklers and turned off the drag racing. That was not to be on this weekend at Beaver Springs Dragway as the weather on both Saturday was Spectacular. Mike McCracken along with his son, Mikey, and their hard-working crew had the facility ready to put on a show. And what a show it was! With the Back Seat Drivers, NETO, MANDRA, and the East Coast Gassers on the premises, there was no shortage of quality race cars to observe. There were even funny cars there as Rocky Pirrone brought out his Super Camaro and the Sweetman family manned the always popular Frantic Ford entry. And if the cars were too fast, there were some other cars around just sitting still, so you could take all the time you needed to take them in!

Although there were no rain clouds to worry about, the weather seemed perfectly suited for clouds of tire smoke. It seemed like nearly every driver put out billowing clouds of smoke each time they set out to heat up their tires.

Each run seemed to be filled with the eyes glued to the burnout box to see how big the burnout was, then shifting to the starting line, fans watching the tree as intently as the drivers, waiting for the light to go green, oftentimes smiling in appreciation of the resulting wheelstand, or…the sighs from seeing the light turn red….or…

…the bigger sigh from breakage that nobody wants to see.

For some, there was the thrill of victory…

…others, the agony (?) of defeat. But rest assured, there wasn’t a single driver or spectator who wished they had been somewhere else. (For those who don’t know, the “Losers Lounge” is an East Coast Gassers exclusive.)
